How to Use Essential Oils
Essential oils can be used in three different ways. First, you can directly apply it on your skin and this is known as a topical application. For example, essential oils such as eucalyptus, lavender, tea tree oil, thyme oil, and bergamot oil can be applied to the skin if you want to disinfect your wound.
For topical use, there are a lot of ways by which you can do this. You may want to perform compression or you may want to use a bottle and spray the contents into your affected skin. You can also do baths and even massage your skin using the oils.
Apart from topical application, another way to benefit from the essential oils is to inhale their aroma. You need to have a diffuser for this in order to fully benefit from them. Or if you do not own a diffuser, you may inhale them directly by pouring the oils into a small bottle. Essential oils, on the other hand, can also be ingested.
How do you choose an application method for this? For wounds, you can definitely choose the topical application. But if you are using essential oils to treat your anxiety, stress, depression, and other abnormal moods, inhalation is the best way to do it. You may, however, do a topical application if you experience a headache and you want it to be relieved. Just massage the area and use the essential oils of your choice.
How to Inhale Essential Oils
There are four ways by which you can inhale essential oils: using a diffuser oil, through a process known as dry evaporation, steaming, or spraying. In a diffuser, essential oils are poured inside this tool. You can sometimes incorporate water in it so it will work much better. You can also resort to heat so the essential oils will evaporate.
Other types of diffusers have a timer feature in them and these types are usually recommended for everyone’s convenience. Take note that essential oils should never be burned directly because the chemical structure is changed with incineration.
Dry evaporation, on the other hand, works when you put several drops of essential oils on a cotton ball. A tissue will also be a good idea for this. Then, you should let the essential oils to evaporate into the air. Now, if you want a better feel and sensation to the essential oils, you can sniff the cotton ball. This way, it’s much more intense. If you want a milder effect, anyway, you can just, you need to have constant exposure. You can do it by letting the cotton ball be settled in your immediate vicinity.
Steaming is also a good way to inhale the essential oils, but you have to remember that this method is not safe for children because it may harm their eyes. If you prefer spraying, you can pour essential oil contents into a bottle that is water-based and then spray it into the air to create a relaxing mood.
Essential oils are not the primary aids for such medical conditions but they sure make a lot of difference. They come from nature and as far as we know, they do not contain chemicals that could harm our body, so it’s reason enough to really make use of them for our benefits.
